Brentwood Communications installs Radio Controlled 'Safe Walkway System' at Tilbury Docks, Essex, UK
Brentwood Communications were awarded with a contract to supply a 'Safe Walkway System' at Tilbury Docks, Essex which is part of an On Site Health and Safety Upgrade within the Docks. The Docks are constantly busy with Straddle Carriers and other vehicles moving across site. The system enables pedestrians who need to cross the site to push a button which remotely triggers Flashing Beacons located high on a lighting tower so that all vehicles can clearly see that the Walkway is in use.
There are 2 Large Buttons placed at either end of the walkway. The Buttons are linked to Motorola Fixed Mobiles which tigger the Beacons.
Brentwood Communications Technical Manager Rob Philpott said ' Port Of Tilbury chose this system mainly because no underground cables had to be installed as the Beacons are triggered via Radio. It is a fantastic example of what radio can do. Radios can remotely control Beacons, Horns, Pumps and various equipment over long distances without the need for cables'.
The 'Safe Walkway System' has proved to be extremely effective since it's installation. It is used on average every 30 minutes.
